KABEER CHOPRA, FOUNDER

Kabeer is a sophomore at Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh. During a summer job at Giant Eagle, he noticed how much plastic was being consumed every day - in the form of bags and packaging. And he also noticed how Giant Eagle’s plastic bag recycling facility was being underutilized. Most people weren’t bringing their plastic bags back to the store and few were bringing reusable bags. At home, he also noticed that his parents weren’t taking their empty glass containers to the Borough’s recycling center, even though his family is pretty conscientious about reducing waste. That’s when he came up with the idea for Green Bridge 412. He believes that most people are committed to making environmentally right choices. But they either don’t know all the steps to recycle correctly, or are just too busy to take them. He hopes that Green Bridge 412 can help bridge the gap between their recycling intentions and their actions.

Kabeer is also an avid sports lover and is on his school’s football, basketball and track teams. When he’s not busy with school and helping make our community more eco-friendly, he enjoys playing the violin, binge watching TV shows and playing video games with his friends.
